A native Philadelphian, Patty Jackson, was born on Monday, November 4th, 1963, and has entered her silver anniversary in broadcasting. She attended South Philadelphia Motivation High School and the American Academy of Broadcasting before embarking on her radio career at WSSJ in Camden, NJ, when it was owned by Broadcast Pioneers member Pat Delsi. Her diverse career has included country, urban and pop formats, including Power 99 FM and Q102. But, her warm and soulful voice found its true home with adult radio listeners on WDAS-FM. Patty is the reigning Queen of Mid-days from 10am to 3pm, Monday through Saturday. Patty’s brand of realness has kept her audience connected throughout her 25-year broadcasting career.

On the eve of Michael Jackson’s death, the Jackson family is dealing with more turmoil. Joe Jackson, the Patriarch of the family, opened up a can of worms when he accused mom Katherine of not doing enough to save their son. Papa Joe quickly backtracked on his statements claiming his words were taken out of context. Someone must have reminded papa Joe that he has no money, and he is still getting money from Katherine. Younger brother Randy is resting well after he was hospitalized for a mild heart attack. In other Jackson news, get ready for the Michael Jackson video games due in stores by Christmas. The games will be compatible with Wii systems and X-Box.

Star Jones is writing a book. Jones is looking for a new career path since leaving The View, and getting kicked off the TV show The Insiders. Jones needs a new career, and now she’s writing a novel about the female hosts of a talk show. Sound familiar?

A judge in Utah has to decide who is going to be the administrator of the Gary Coleman estate. Coleman’s ex wife, a former manager and a mystery woman have all filed claims to be in charge. A recent court document was discovered showing that maybe Coleman’s ex-wife Shannon Price pulled the plug too soon. The document stated that the will called for him to be on life support for fifteen days. Price only waited one day before she told them to pull the plug, and Coleman died. Coleman died as the result of a head injury in his house.

Smokey Robinson is battling his family. Robinson’s niece Stacye Jones is claiming that Robinson abandoned them when her mother and Robinson’s sister died. Stacye says she’s disabled with painful arthritis, but still lived with and took care of her mother. Robinson’s sister, Rose Ella Jones, wrote songs with Smokey including Quiet Storm. While she was alive, Robinson supported Rose and her daughter. Now, he wants niece Stacye to get a job and support herself and her bills.

Former NBA Star Dennis Rodman owes over $300,000 in back child support. His ex-wife says it is owed to their two children. Singer Brian McKnight is also having child support issues. He owes close to $400,000 to a 14-year old. McKnight says it’s the result of a brief fling, but now it is costing him a ton of money. McKnight’s fiancée just gave birth to a baby earlier this year, and he has two older sons.

The Cleveland Show has been renewed for a third season. The animated show on FOX is a spin-off of The Family Guy.

D.L. Hughley is getting a game show on NBC. Who’s Bluffing Who shows contestants bluffing their way into winning a million dollars. Steve Harvey, D.L.’s fellow King Of Comedy, will be hosting the new version of Family Feud on the Game Show network. Steve will make his debuts this fall.

Get ready for The Karate Kid sequel. The newest box office champ stars Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan and is a remake of the 80’s classic that originally starred Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio. The movie cost $40 million to make, and has already grossed over $56 million in its opening weekend. The movie was produced by Jaden’s parents Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. It’s a great family movie! I loved it!

At the movies, it’s Toy Story III. The Adventures Of Buzz, Woody, Jessie, Ken and Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head continue.

Congrats to Oscar Winner Denzel Washington, who now add a Tony Award to his collection. Washington won for his role in the Broadway production of Fences. Fences was a big winner on the night of the Tonys. The production won for Best Revival Of A Play and Denzel’s Co-star and Oscar Nominee Viola Davis won for Best Actress.

The Wachovia Center is undergoing another name change. By the fall, the center will be renamed The Wells Fargo Center. The name change will happen before the start of the Sixers and Flyers’ seasons. The building opened in 1996 as the CoreStates Center then it became The First Union Center. The building has been named The Wachovia Center since 2003.

On Saturday, June 26th, it’s The Susquehanna Community Festival with Billy Paul, Jean Carne, Harold Melvin’s Bluenotes and Comedian Turae. There will be food, vendors and a gospel pavilion. State Representative Jewell Williams heads up this festival. The festivities run from Broad and Susquehanna to 18th and Susquehanna Avenue. For more information call 215-765-2200.

Congrats to Earth Wind & Fire, Paul Simon and the late Bob Marley. They were recently inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame.

Gabby Sidebe’s mom, Alice Tan Ridley, is wowing them on America’s Got Talent. The 58 year-old subway singer is hoping to win the competition. America’s Got Talent is hosted by Nick Cannon and airs Tuesday nights on NBC.

Rapper/Actor Common says he is single. He confirmed he is no longer dating Tennis Superstar Serena Williams.

The Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin turned a lot of heads over the weekend in New York. Franklin was stunning at The Tony Awards. She showed off her recent weight loss. The Queen Of Soul has lost over 60 pounds. She was wearing a blonde wig and a gorgeous bronze gown. The following night, she wore the same gown but with a brunette wig. Aretha was honored at The Apollo Theatre, and she shocked a lot of people again when she kissed Jamie Foxx. No word on why she wore the same gown two nights in a row. The Queen Of Soul was honored along with the late King Of Pop Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony.

Kevin Eubanks is coming back home. Eubanks recently left his post as the bandleader for The Tonight Show, and he’s being honored in Philly. On June 17th he’s getting a plaque on The Philadelphia Alliance Walk Of Fame on South Broad Street (a.k.a. The Avenue Of The Arts). He’s also being honored on the 18th at Citizens Bank Park for The Sound Of Philly Night At The Phillies. The Phillies will be hosting the Minnesota Twins, and Eubanks is being honored along with WDAS’ own Butterball, The Intruders, and Billy Paul. They will be getting The 2010 Phillies-Gamble & Huff Community Partnership Award. I will be the host for the pregame festivities.

Omarosa is back! Omarosa made a splash with the first season of The Apprentice, and now she has a new reality dating show. The TV villainess is looking for love on the new TV show Omarosa: The Ultimate Merger. Donald Trump is the executive producer, and one of the men romancing Omarosa is Singer Al B. Sure. The show debuts on TV ONE June 21st. It’s going to be interesting how Omarosa handles her new show since she is dating Actor Michael Clarke Duncan in private.

Jada Pinkett Smith is on the cover of Essence magazine. There are dual covers of Jada. One where she is nude and one where she has clothes on. Jada says she did the nude photo shoot to celebrate the Body Beautiful issue. Her TV show, HawthoRNe, about a chief nurse officer, kicks off its second season Tuesday, June 22nd at 9pm on TNT.

Prince is gracing the cover of Ebony magazine where he talks about his career and religion. He’s also going to be honored at The 10th Annual BET Awards. Prince is getting The Lifetime Achievement Award. Past honorees include Whitney Houston, The Isley Brothers, James Brown and Earth Wind & Fire. Queen Latifah is hosting and the awards air Sunday, June 27th.

Morris Day & The Time are coming to Penns Landing. Saturday, June 26th, it’s a free concert and fireworks as part of The Wawa Welcome America Festivities. On The Fourth Of July, it’s The Goo Goo Dolls, The Roots, Chuck Brown and Chrisette Michele.

The Daytime Emmys air on June 27th, and this year they will be honoring TV Legend Dick Clark. Clark, 80, is known as The World’s Oldest Teenager. From his work on American Bandstand to New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and the many shows he produced, he is a TV Icon. In 2004, Clark suffered a stroke, and he rarely makes appearances.

Don’t forget to check out the new TBS series Are We There Yet. It airs Wednesday nights at 9pm. The show is very funny and stars Terry Crews (Everybody Hates Chris) and Essence Atkins (Half & Half). The TV show is based on the hit Ice Cube movie of the same name. Ice Cube is the Executive Producer of the TV show.

Venus Williams will be in town Thursday, July 8th signing copies of her new book, Come To Win. She will be at Borders in Center City.

Herbie Hancock has a new album coming out on the 22nd. The Imagine Project features Chaka Khan, John Legend, Seal, Pink, Dave Matthews and India.Arie.

Blair Underwood is a busy guy. As an author, he’s just released the latest installment of his detective novel series entitled From Cape Town With Love: A Tennyson Hardwick Novel. As an actor, Underwood returns to NBC this fall with the drama series The Event, in which he plays the President Of The United States.

Poet/Author Dr. Maya Angelou recently turned 82, and she is coming out with a new cookbook called Great Food All Day Long.

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney is being honored at The White House. McCartney is getting the Gershwin Prize For Popular Song from The Library Of Congress. Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and Corinne Bailey Rae are among those honoring McCartney. The ceremonies will air on PBS July 28th.

The O’Jays will be profiled on the new season of the TV documentary series Unsung along with Teddy Pendergrass, Tammi Terrell and George Clinton. The new season kicks off this fall. Also get ready for K-Ci and JoJo of Jodeci fame. They are getting a reality show on TV One dealing with their lives, and how they have battled their addictions.

Jennifer Hudson is one busy lady. She has a new album coming out in September, and she’s being profiled on VH1’s Behind The Music. Hudson’s special will air June 28th, and it shows the ups and downs, tragedies and triumphs of her life. And, for the first time, she will talk about the triple murders of her mother, brother and nephew. She will also talk about her fiancé David Otunga and new baby boy, David, Jr. If that weren’t enough, this summer, she will be filming the new movie Winnie. Hudson stars as Winnie Mandela.

Chris Rock and Adam Sandler will be starring in a new comedy Grownups, which opens in theatres June 25th.

Get ready for the return of Dru Hill. Sisqo, Nokio, Jazz and new member Tao have a new reality show that will premiere on the Centric network June 28th, and they have a new album, Indrupendence Day, coming out July 27th.

To mark the anniversary of his passing, the latest book from E. Lynn Harris is being released. In My Father’s House arrives in bookstores June 22nd.

The Steve Harvey Radio Show is coming to TV. The BET network will be airing The Steve Harvey Radio Show on their Centric network starting this fall. Also, get ready for the return of the TV show The Game. The cancelled CW comedy is being revived on the Bet network with the original cast.

Trey Songz and Monica are gearing up for a summer tour. Songz also has a new reality show debuting on BET on June 27th.

The 7th Annual West Oak Lane Jazz And Arts Festival is going to an all-jazz theme this year. Mark your calendar for June 18th -20th. Three days, two stages and it’s all free with Al Jarreau, George Duke, David Sanborn, Diane Reeves and Joey DeFrancesco, to name a few. This year will have a New Orleans theme. The Bynum Brothers are back with a new venture. They own Warmdaddy’s on Columbus Boulevard and had the old Zanzibar Blue in Center City. Their latest project is called RELISH at 7152 Ogontz Avenue.
