A native Philadelphian, Patty Jackson, was born on Monday, November 4th, 1963, and has entered her silver anniversary in broadcasting. She attended South Philadelphia Motivation High School and the American Academy of Broadcasting before embarking on her radio career at WSSJ in Camden, NJ, when it was owned by Broadcast Pioneers member Pat Delsi. Her diverse career has included country, urban and pop formats, including Power 99 FM and Q102. But, her warm and soulful voice found its true home with adult radio listeners on WDAS-FM. Patty is the reigning Queen of Mid-days from 10am to 3pm, Monday through Saturday. Patty’s brand of realness has kept her audience connected throughout her 25-year broadcasting career.

Actor Gary Coleman has died at the age of 42. The former child actor and star of Diff'rent Strokes had two seizures this year and died after he was hospitalized and slipped into a coma. While he was one of the biggest television stars of the 70's and 80's, his life was full of troubles. He had health problems with his kidneys, he sued his parents, arrested on assault charges and his troubled married life. In what some call The Diff'rent Strokes curse, he follows his co-star Dana Plato who died of a drug overdose.

Alicia Keys has finally revealed she's pregnant. She and her boyfriend, the newly divorced Producer Swizz Beatz, are also planning a summer wedding.

Eric Snow has dumped his wife. The former NBA basketball star has walked out on his wife DeShawn Snow. DeShawn was featured on the first season of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta. She only lasted one season because producers felt she was too nice and not enough of a drama queen. Eric Snow filed for divorce, and he says there is no hope for reconciliation. Friends say he just wanted out. The Snows were married for 12 years, and they have three children.

Now that Dancing With The Stars is over, NFL Star Chad Ochocinco Johnson has started filming his new dating show. Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch debuts July 11th on VH1. Chad has to date 85 girls in less than 10 days. His dancing partner, Cheryl Burke, won’t be on the show despite the expensive jewelry he gave her when they were on Dancing With The Stars.

The Dell East is back and the lineup is incredible. The season kicks off July 12th. Get ready For Teena Marie, The Whispers, Keith Sweat, Marvin Sapp, War, Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill and Marion Meadows. The box office opens June 7th. The Dell East is located at 33rd and Ridge.

Janet Jackson is sporting a new look. Jackson is sporting a sleek short hairstyle, but the jury is still out. Some people love it. Some people don’t. Jackson is dating a rich oil heir. 35-year old Wissam Al Man is of Arab dissent and comes from a rich oil family. He is described as hip and fashionable, but did his Islamic background influence Janet to drop the weave and wigs. Janet’s brother Jermaine is also Muslim.

Is Elin Woods worth $750 million? Elin is out for blood. In addition to the money, she wants full custody of her children with Golfer Tiger Woods. She also refuses to sign a confidentiality agreement. The marriage is over, and Elin wants to leave the country and move back to her native Sweden. In the meantime, Tiger has reportedly found another blonde to have fun with.

Blair Underwood is a busy guy. As an author, he’s just released the latest installment of his detective novel series entitled From Cape Town With Love: A Tennyson Hardwick Novel. As an actor, Underwood returns to NBC this fall with the drama series The Event, in which he plays the President Of The United States.

Poet/Author Dr. Maya Angelou recently turned 82, and she is coming out with a new book. A cookbook called Great Food All Day Long.

Patti LaBelle recently celebrated her 66th birthday with a surprise birthday party in Los Angeles. Stevie Wonder, Lalah Hathaway and Chrisette Michele were all on hand to help her celebrate.

Is Halle Berry a mean girl? According to friends of her baby daddy Gabriel Aubry, the Oscar winner was no picnic to date. They say Berry is so scarred from past relationships, she can’t drop the baggage. Insiders say she doesn’t know how to be in a healthy relationship. Berry’s previous relationships include ex-husbands David Justice and Singer Eric Benet and boyfriends Wesley Snipes and Singer Christopher Williams.

Former football great Lawrence Taylor may be registered as a sex offender if he is found guilty of patronizing an underage prostitute. Even though Taylor says he didn’t have sex with the underage girl, he is charged with raping her. Taylor says he was only pleasuring himself, but money was exchanged. The girl got $300.

Are the fertility treatments the reason for Mariah Carey’s weight gain? She and hubby Nick Cannon want to start a family. While family matters are on Nick’s mind, he’s still working too. Cannon returns as host of NBC’s America’s Got Talent on June 1st with Judges Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan. Comedian Howie Mandel replaces David Hasselhoff this year, and now ex-American Idol Judge Simon Cowell is the executive producer.

Terry Crews and Essence Atkins are the stars of the new TBS sitcom Are We There Yet. It’s based on the Ice Cube movies, and Cube is serving as executive producer of the show. Are We There Yet debuts on June 2nd at 9pm with back to back episodes.

Actress Kerry Washington is on the cover of Jet magazine. The issue also features a tribute to the late great Lena Horne.

Essence magazine is coming out with a book about African American hair. The book Hot Hair debuts in October and will cover all beauty needs, questions and concerns about African American haircare.

It appears Common and Serena Williams are no longer a couple. Common, who is starring in the new Queen Latifah movie Just Wright, has been acting very single. Williams won’t comment on her love life.

Is Regina King still dating Malcolm Jamal Warner? Hmmmmmm!

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney is being honored at the White House. McCartney is getting the Gershwin Prize For Popular Song from The Library Of Congress. Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and Corinne Bailey Rae are among those honoring McCartney. The ceremonies will air on PBS July 28th. McCartney has said he’d like an occasion to perform his Beatles song Michelle for Michelle Obama. We’ll see if that happens.

Paula Abdul is coming back to TV on the CBS dance show Got To Dance. Abdul will serve as a judge and executive producer. In the meantime, her money demands may have turned off the producers of Simon Cowell’s new show The X-Factor.

Prophetess Juanita Bynum is looking to get her career back on track. She has hired Beyonce’s dad Matthew Knowles to guide her career. She and Knowles have known each other for years. Bynum’s career never recovered after her marriage to Bishop Thomas Weeks fell apart. In the meantime, Bishop Weeks has moved on with his life. He got married late last year to another prophetess, Pastor Christina Glenn.

Walter Williams, a founding member of the legendary O’Jays, is talking publicly about his long time battle with multiple sclerosis. Williams was diagnosed with MS back in the 80’s. He says he wants everyone to know that eating healthy, exercising, talking with your doctors and a great attitude can make all the difference. Williams says he’s an example of being able to continue to live a fulfilling life. He still tours as part of The O’Jays, and he recently released a solo project called Walter Williams - Exposed.

Speaking of The O’Jays, they will be profiled on the new season of the TV documentary series Unsung along with Teddy Pendergrass, Tammi Terrell and George Clinton. The new season kicks off this fall. Also get ready for K-Ci and JoJo of Jodeci fame. They are getting a reality show on TV One dealing with their lives, and how they have battled their addictions.

Khloe Kardashian is pregnant. She and her hubby, LA Lakers Star Lamar Odom, are expecting their first child together, and they are looking to share their story with the highest bidder.

Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is off to prison. He has been sentenced to 1 ½ to 5 years for violating his probation. Apparently, Kilpatrick still owes the city of Detroit a million dollars in restitution. The troubles started for Kilpatrick when he was found guilty of lying under oath about having an affair with his female chief of staff.

Mary J. Blige is coming out with a new line of sunglasses. The Melodies Line arrives in stores this fall. And speaking of Mary, filming starts this fall in France for the new Nina Simone movie. The Queen Of Hip Hop Soul will play the jazz legend who died in 2003.

Former Spice Girl Mel B is getting a reality show on the Style network. The Mel B Project is being described as a comedy-docudrama, and it’ll show her life with her family and her show biz career. Mel B has two daughters: a pre-teen and a young toddler by Eddie Murphy. Mel B is also married to Stephen Belafonte. The Mel B Project debuts Labor Day weekend. Now speaking of Eddie Murphy, he says after 20 years he may return to stand up comedy. Murphy is best known for his concert film classics Raw and Delirious.

Next season’s winner of America's Next Top Model will get a cover on the Italian version of Vogue magazine.

Kem is back with a hot new song called Why Would You Stay. His new album, Intimacy, comes out July 13th.

Omarosa is back! Omarosa made a splash with the first season of The Apprentice, and now she has a new reality dating show. The TV villainess is looking for love on the new TV show Omarosa: The Ultimate Merger. Donald Trump is the executive producer and one of the men romancing Omarosa is Singer Al B. Sure.

Congrats to DJ Jazzy Jeff. He and his fiancée are making wedding plans. They are the proud parents of twins, who were born last year.

Queen Latifah will be hosting The BET Awards on June 27th.


Jennifer Hudson is one busy lady. She has a new album coming out in September, and she’s being profiled on VH1’s Behind The Music. Hudson’s special will air June 28th, and it shows the ups and downs, tragedies and triumphs of her life. And, for the first time, she will talk about the triple murders of her mother, brother and nephew. She will also talk about her fiancé David Otunga and new baby boy, David, Jr. If that weren’t enough, this summer, she will be filming the new movie Winnie. Hudson stars as Winnie Mandela.


Speaking of the movie Winnie, Terrence Howard is co-starring with Hudson in the movie. He will be playing Nelson Mandela. Howard’s pretty busy himself. He is also a newlywed. He recently married wife number three, L.A. Designer Michelle Ghent. Howard has also signed on to play Marvin Gaye when the story of his life comes to the big screen. This fall, Howard will be starring in the George Lucas movie Red Tails.

Chris Rock and Adam Sandler will be starring in a new comedy Grownups, which opens in theatres June 25th.

Terry McMillan has written a sequel to Waiting To Exhale. The new book, Getting To Happy, arrives in bookstores in September, but you can pick up the latest issue of Essence magazine, with Actress Taraji P. Henson on the cover, and check out an excerpt from the book.

Get ready for the return of Dru Hill. Sisqo, Nokio, Jazz and new member Tao have a new reality show that will premiere on the Centric network June 28th, and they have a new album, Indrupendence Day, coming out July 27th.

Jay-Z is coming out with another greatest hits album this summer.


To mark the anniversary of his passing, the latest book from E. Lynn Harris is being released. In My Father’s House arrives in bookstores June 22nd.

At the movies this week, Sex And The City II. Yes, Carrie and the girls are back! Will Carrie cheat on “Mr. Big?” That’s the big question in this sequel. The movie soundtrack is out and features music from Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson and Erykah Badu.

The VH1 Hip Hop Honors is set for June 7th. This year’s honorees include Producer Jermaine Dupri, Rapper Master P and “Uncle Luke” himself, Luther Campbell.

Will Smith is returning to the Men In Black franchise, this time in 3-D. The new movie will also reunite him with co-star Tommy Lee Jones and hits theatres May 2011.

Actress Victoria Rowell is back with her latest book Secrets Of A Soap Opera Diva. Rowell is best known for her work on the soap opera The Young And The Restless, where she played “Drucilla.” Will she ever return to the legendary number one daytime show? So far, producers have expressed no interest in bringing back Rowell, but a casting call recently went out for an African American woman to play a character loosely based on “Drucilla.”

The Steve Harvey Radio Show is coming to TV. The BET network will be airing The Steve Harvey Radio Show on their Centric network starting this fall. Also, get ready for the return of the TV show The Game. The cancelled CW comedy is being revived on the Bet network with the original cast.

Trey Songz and Monica are gearing up for a summer tour. Songz also has a new reality show debuting on BET on June 27th.

The Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin and The King Of Pop Michael Jackson are going to be the new inductees into the Apollo Theatre Hall Of Fame. The ceremony takes place June 14th. Past inductees include Patti LaBelle, Quincy Jones and Ella Fitzgerald. Jennifer Lopez and her hubby Marc Anthony are also going to be honored that night with a humanitarian award.

It will be the reunion of Run DMC at the 3rd Annual Roots Picnic. The event is happening June 5th at Penns Landing. This will be their first performance since the death of Jam Master Jay, who was murdered in 2002.

The new version of the Karate Kid hits theatres on June 11th with Jaden Smith, Taraji P. Henson and Jackie Chan.

Sunday, June 13th marks the 35th anniversary of Odunde. The festival will take place at 23rd and South Streets from 10am until 8pm.

The 7th Annual West Oak Lane Jazz And Arts Festival is going to an all-jazz theme this year. Mark your calendar for June 18th -20th. Three days, two stages and it’s all free with Al Jarreau, George Duke, David Sanborn, Diane Reeves and Joey DeFrancesco, to name a few. This year will have a New Orleans theme. The Bynum Brothers are back with a new venture. They own Warmdaddy’s on Columbus Boulevard and had the old Zanzibar Blue in Center City. Their latest project is called RELISH at 7152 Ogontz Avenue.
