A native Philadelphian, Patty Jackson, was born on Monday, November 4th, 1963, and has entered her silver anniversary in broadcasting. She attended South Philadelphia Motivation High School and the American Academy of Broadcasting before embarking on her radio career at WSSJ in Camden, NJ, when it was owned by Broadcast Pioneers member Pat Delsi. Her diverse career has included country, urban and pop formats, including Power 99 FM and Q102. But, her warm and soulful voice found its true home with adult radio listeners on WDAS-FM. Patty is the reigning Queen of Mid-days from 10am to 3pm, Monday through Saturday. Patty’s brand of realness has kept her audience connected throughout her 25-year broadcasting career.

Bishop Eddie Long says he will fight the charges leveled against him. In a statement to his congregation and the world, Long admitted he is not perfect, but he is not the man the media has portrayed him to be. He says he’s under attack. A fourth young man has come forward saying he was coerced into having sex with Long in exchange for cars, jewelry, cash, trips. Spencer LeGrande says he was 17 when it all started years ago. A lot of people thought Long would step down, but he says he will not leave his church.

Jermaine Jackson says he’s broke, and he can’t afford child support for two of his eight kids. The kids in question are by is ex-wife Alejandra Jackson. Alejandra has two kids by Jermaine and two kids by his brother Randy. Jermaine started seeing Alejandra while she was still involved with Randy. Jermaine is now dating a wealthy Arabian woman, but he claims he can’t make the $3,000 a month child support payment. He says he can only afford $250. Jackson says his career is in the toilet, and business has stalled. He says he can barely make ends meet, and he gets help from his girlfriend. Alejandra is living on the Jackson compound, and she and her kids have been taken care of by Katherine Jackson for years. Jermaine feels Alejandra is lazy, and won’t get a job. The financial pressures are mounting on Katherine Jackson. She has gone to the Jackson estate for more money so she can support not only Michael’s three children, but her children (Randy, Marlon and Jermaine) her other grandkids and hubby Joe Jackson. How much more can Katherine take since she has to take care of so many people?

The Queen Of Soul is furious at her son’s girlfriend. Two weeks ago, Franklin’s 52-year old son Eddie was beaten up in Detroit. Franklin had to be hospitalized and have his jaw wired shut. Franklin won’t talk about what happened, but his girlfriend did. She said Franklin was attacked by two men and one woman at a gas station. She says she later dropped him off at the hospital. The Queen Of Soul wouldn’t go into detail, but she says her son was not attacked at a gas station. She went on to say her son has nothing to hide, and this will remain a private matter. In 2002, Aretha’s son was cleared in an investigation of an arson fire at one of her mansions.

Get ready for the return of Beyonce…new music is on the way in a couple of weeks.

Mel Gibson’s babymomma is coming to Oprah. Oksana Grigorieva is planning to tell all to Oprah about her tumultuous relationship with Gibson.

Laila Ali and husband former NFL Player Curtis Conway are expanding their family. Ali is pregnant with her second child. She’s hoping for a girl. She’s due in April. This will be Muhammad Ali’s 13th grandchild. Laila is also coming out with a line of hair products.

After 17 years, it’s a wrap for George Lopez and his wife Ann. The Lopez’s are divorcing after 17 years of marriage one child and one kidney. In a statement, they say they will continue with their Lopez Foundation and raising their daughter. A few years ago, Ann Lopez saved her husband’s life by giving him her kidney.

The music world is mourning the loss of Music Industry Giant Dick Griffey. The 66-year old Griffey founded S.O.L.A.R. Records, The Sound Of Los Angeles. That label spun out of the Soul Train Records label he owned with one time partner Don Cornelius. Griffey was the original talent booker for the Soul Train TV show. In the 70’s and 80’s, S.O.L.A.R. Records dominated the charts with their artists The Whispers, Midnight Starr, Calloway, Shalamar (Jody Watley/Jeffrey Daniels/Howard Hewett), Dynasty, Lakeside, The Deele (L.A. & Babyface) and Klymaxx. Griffey was married to Singer Carrie Lucas. She had the hit duets with The Whispers Just A Memory and Hello Stranger. Griffey had been sick for a while, and he passed last week after quadruple bypass surgery. Griffey leaves to mourn his wife, four kids and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Jesse Jackson, Jr. speaks for the first time about the state of her marriage to Chicago-area Congressman. Sandi Jackson says she was mortified and in agony over finding out her husband had an affair with a bikini model. The Jacksons have two children and have been married since 1991. Sandi says she went through bouts of sleepless nights and she was losing her hair. Sandi is an alderman in Chicago. She says Jesse, Jr. told her about the affair two years ago, and they have undergone marital and spiritual counseling. The Jacksons are looking to expand their political ambitions. Both are interested in running for mayor in Chicago. Sandi says despite the pain, she is standing by her man. Jesse, Jr. was involved with Giovanna Huidobro, a bikini model and cocktail waitress. As of press time, there has been no public comment from Jesse, Jr., Huidobro or Jesse’s dad the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who has had problems with extramarital affairs himself.

Is Allen Iverson headed to China? Iverson, 35, wants to resume his basketball career with stops in Philadelphia, Denver, Detroit, and Memphis, but no NBA team seems interested. A basketball league in China has shown interest in Iverson, whose career has been married by injuries and rumors of gambling and drinking.

Wyclef Jean had to be hospitalized for stress and fatigue after his unsuccessful bid for the presidency of Haiti. Spokespeople for Jean say he had been having severe headaches due to lack of sleep and global travel. They say it wore down his physical health and stamina.

The nominees for the 2011 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame have been announced. The nominees are The Beasties Boys, LL Cool J, Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, The J Geils Band, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, Chic, Darlene Love and Dr. John. The final list of nominees comes out in December. The 25th annual induction ceremony takes place March 14th in New York.

She won’t talk babies, but Mariah Carey is planning to unveil a new lifestyle collection on the Home Shopping Network. Just in time for Christmas, she’s got a new holiday CD and her collection of footwear, jewelry and fragrances.

Fantasia is going on tour with Songwriter/Singer/Reality Star Kandi Burruss, formerly of Xscape and currently of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta, which returns October 4th on the Bravo network. They’ll join Eric Benet at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby Saturday, November 6th.

Ed Gordon returns to BET with his TV show Conversations With Ed Gordon. The show airs Sunday nights at 10pm on BET.

WDAS Morning Man Steve Harvey is the new host of Family Feud. He already has 100 episodes on tape. The show airs nightly in syndication. Steve’s new book Straight Talk, No Chaser: How To Find, Keep And Understand A Man is due in bookstores December 7th. It’s the follow up to his bestseller Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man.

Terrence Howard is one busy guy. He and Taraji P. Henson will be back as host of The Soul Train Awards. The 40th anniversary of Soul Train is being marked this year, and the awards show will air Sunday, November 28th. Special honorees include Ron Isley and Anita Baker. In more Terrence news, he also part of the cast of the Law And Order Los Angeles with Actress Regina Hall (the Scary Movie franchise).

President Obama has a new book coming out on November 16th. The book, Of Thee I Sing: A Letter To My Daughters, is a children’s book. The proceeds will go towards a scholarship fund for children of fallen and disabled troops.

I had a chance to catch up with Faith Evans. She gave me the scoop on her album Something About Faith. It’ll be released October 5th, and she’s got duets with Eric Benet and El DeBarge.

Speaking of Eric Benet and El DeBarge, Eric’s new CD, Lost In Time, comes out November 23rd, and features Faith Evans, Chrisette Michele, Ledisi and Eddie Levert. El’s latest CD, Second Chance, comes out November 30th. Benet is scheduled to be Tony Brown’s special guest on Sunday, October 3rd. Tony will be broadcasting live from Warmdaddy’s, Columbus Blvd. and Reed from noon until 3pm with the Groovin’ On A Sunday Afternoon show. Benet’s first single from the new album is Sometimes I Cry. El is the cover guy for the new issue of Ebony magazine. He’s coming to Philly on October 9th with a concert for The Baptist Temple Arts And Culture Center, Broad and Berks on Temple University’s campus. In the Ebony magazine feature, he talks about releasing his first album in 16 years, his drug addiction and his family of 12 kids.

CNN’s Soledad O’Brien is back with another installment of her Black In America specials. This time the focus is the black church, and airs October 21st.

The Men Of Soul are coming to Philly. Friday, November 12th at the Tower Theatre, it’s Jeffrey Osborne, Freddie Jackson, Peabo Bryson and Howard Hewett. Tickets go on sale September 18th.

K-Ci and JoJo Hailey of Jodeci fame are coming to reality TV in K-Ci And JoJo Come Clean, which debuts Tuesday, October 19th on TV One.

It’s another honor for Oprah Winfrey. On December 28th, she will be one of the recipients at the Kennedy Center Honors along with Sir Paul McCartney, Choreographer/Dancer Bill T. Jones and Country Legend Merle Haggard. Oprah is in her 25th and final season of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The Universoul Circus is headed back to town next month in Fairmount Park.

October 18th is the new start date for the Holly Robinson’s daytime talk show debut. The show, simply called The Talk, will also feature Sharon Osborne and Moderator Julie Chen with a host of other women, a la The View.

The new issue of Essence is hot with Blair Underwood, Boris Kodjoe and Lance Gross as the cover guys. The TV hunks look good as they gear up for their new shows. Blair Underwood plays the President Of The United States in the suspense filled drama The Event, which airs on Monday nights at 9pm. Boris Kodjoe will be starring with Gugu Mbatha-Raw as husband and wife in the action drama Undercovers, which airs on Wednesday nights at 8pm.

The release date for Tyler Perry’s movie For Colored Girls has been moved up. The movie was supposed to come out next January, but the movie is now being released on November 5th. The movie, based on the 1975 play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf by Ntozake Shange, stars Janet Jackson, Anika Noni Rose, Whoopi Goldberg, Kimberly Elise, Phylicia Rashad, Loretta Devine, Thandie Newton, Macy Gray, Michael Ealy, Hill Harper and Khalil Kain. Tyler Perry wrote and directed this movie version, and Oscar buzz and hype is already surrounding the film.

Anita Baker is set to release a new album new on January 18th. Baker, 52, says she’s excited about the new project called 21st Century Love.

Patti LaBelle is on Broadway. She is playing the mother of the lead character in the musical Fela! LaBelle will be in the production through the first of the year.

Takers Co-star Idris Elba is going to be the Honorary Chairperson along with Jimmy Rollins at this year’s Philly’s Men Are Cooking taking place Saturday, November 27th. I’ll keep you posted with more details later.

Coming to DVD:

Toy Story III, starring the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Don Rickles, is out November 3rd.

Congrats to Chaka Khan! Khan is being honored at the 32nd Annual UNCF telethon, An Evening Of Stars. The show airs in syndication January 2011.

Sherri Shepherd has been named the new host of the Newlywed Game. The new revival of the classic series kicks off this November airing weeknights at 6pm on the Game Show Network.

Iyanla Van Zandt has a new book coming out in November called Peace From Broken Pieces: How To Get Through What You’re Going Through. Van Zandt is returning to the literary world after suffering the loss of her daughter and the end of her marriage.
