Some family members of the late Teddy Pendergrass are at odds over the singer’s wishes. His wife Joan and his son Teddy, II have produced conflicting wills in court. The wills from each seem to cut the other out completely. The two sides were not able to come to an agreement as to how to proceed. Attorneys for Joan Pendergrass, who married the singer in 2008, say the conflict is less about money and more about the singer’s image and legacy. Teddy II insists his father’s intention was to leave the younger Pendergrass in charge for the family. A judge has already noted the estate doesn’t have the financial complications of other cases. This is because there aren’t huge song writing residuals. Teddy Pendergrass did some songwriting, but did not write most of his hits. Gamble and Huff were responsible for the majority of those songs during Pendergrass’ 13 years with Philadelphia International Records beginning in 1971 as lead singer of Harold Melvin And The Bluenotes before leaving in 1976 for a solo career.
